A love letter to the women in my life.
Who run the world?
Happy March 8th! It’s International Women’s Day! And, weirdly, for the first time in our lives people in the US seem to be really into it. There’s stuff happening on social media, marketing departments are scrambling, McDonald’s turned their iconic golden arches physically upside down into a giant “W” sign at a California location (note, twitter isn’t lovin’ it). Women around the world are marching, protesting and coming together to fight wage and gender inequality and highlight the impact we have on the world.
Here’s what I know to be true - we don’t need one special day of the year to highlight the impact you, each amazing one of you, has on this world. I know the world is a better place with you in it. I know that the 364 other days of this year, and every other year you’ve been on this planet, you’re fighting the good fight.
You are artists, entrepreneurs, scholars, clergy, writers, creators, teachers, makers, kick-ass, take-no-prisoners believers, mothers, sisters, warriors, confidants and friends. You inspire, challenge, push, pull and never settle for anything less than exceptional when it comes to your friends, families, businesses, work and communities. You don’t sleep enough, don’t prioritize yourselves and you make it all happen often without thanks or even the expectation of reward.
Thank you. Thank you for persevering when the outcome looks grim. Thank you for pressing on when the work is so hard. Thanks for sharing your stories and selflessly supporting the world around you. Let’s not wait another year for the world to acknowledge us. Let’s make every day international women’s day through our collective strength and action.
To my Mom, Frances, my sister Margaret, my business partner Kara Weber and all my unbelievably courageous friends -- you are a daily reminder that I stand on (and with) the shoulders of giants. And while “what’s past is prologue” is too often the case, I know this world will be better for all going forward because of who you are and what you stand for.
Love you my ladies-
