We are delighted to share the news that we’ve made our latest investment - participation in the seed funding of Camera IQ. More on the funding here from TechCrunch.
We were introduced to Allison Wood, founder and CEO, via Ara Katz (co-founder of Spring, BeachMint, and an advisor to another company we hold near and dear, Tamara Mellon Brand). The company perfectly fit our thesis to invest in brilliant, diverse leadership teams transforming the future of commerce. It was immediately clear to us that Allison, her co-founder Sonia Tsao and the team they’ve assembled are building a very special platform.
There are lots of amazing teams building very special companies, though. What pushed us to do this deal?
A market in the midst of transformation - Wood predicts that “camera media [meaning filters, lenses and other AR effects - will be bigger than TV...”
Led by a founder with deep sector expertise who’s created fantastic momentum with major brands and platforms (Spotify, Coachella, Refinery29, FabFitFun…)...
Who’s assembled a strong, diverse team...
For whom timing is right: Camera IQ is rising as Zuckerberg declares the camera the future of Facebook; Snap rebrands as “the camera company,” and today Apple (“iPhone 10 - the world’s largest platform for augmented reality”) and Google embrace the camera as driver of the next wave of commerce, innovation and revenue...
Our partnership has been developing for more than a year, during which Allison highlighted our value to the company:
“Kara and Lizzie have a great eye for opportunities - they were among the first to truly understand our vision and potential. They've been in our shoes, put in the work to build relationships with our team, and they go to bat for us. They're the partner any brilliant founder wants in their corner."
As long-time advisors and early, huge believers in LA-based Camera IQ, we’re delighted by the opportunity to hop on as the team continues its ride to the moon.
